Redesign: Featuring Abbey

So my cat, Abbey aka Abignail aka Abb Sheet aka Mormon Tabernacle Choir (I have problems), took it upon herself to fill in for the rest of the model on Brittany's winning cover.

And how controversial. Putting a full-bodied cat on the cover. What a statement.

Thought y'all would get a laugh out of it (this is also just an excuse for me to share pictures of my cat, of which I have too many...).

I was also playing around with typography today and since I don't have anywhere else to display it, I figured I'd just throw it up here. Comment with feedback if ya'd like. If not, at least you got an enjoyable cat picture out of this post :)

  1. Ha! I really enjoyed this post. The cat picture is like a combination of Brittany Duncan's cover AND LeeAnn's cat cover. Love it.

Anyways, as for the typographic design, I thought it was executed very well! The typefaces are very clean and the combination is displayed in a cohesive manner. My friendly suggestion is to play with the color palette a bit. The combination of black and orange remind me of Halloween... which doesn't really depict the quote well in my opinion. Loved the quote though!

  2. Soooo controversial! Aka, I love it.

First thing that I noticed about your design was the way you placed Andy Rooney. Simple and so effective. I'd have to agree with Andrea, I love orange but I'd play up a more youthful and enjoyable color perhaps? I'm partial to purple but that's just me ha. Maybe the color theory book we have for the semester might have a killer color combo? Just a thought! :)

  4. I'm not going to do the expected thing and comment on the cat ...

The play with the quote is great! You're clearly very good with typography, and I can tell you prefer sans serifs (first the thank you for smoking ... now this!) Very great packaging. "Andy Rooney" fits perfectly around that end quote. Gosh, that's such a unique placement too, I can't say I've ever seen anything like it.

If you were thinking color choices for "youth," I might suggest yellow. I can't stop associating yellow and death after seeing this illustration in Esquire: http://www.esquire.com/features/movies/funny-people-judd-apatow-0609
